The Toyota Prius is a full hybrid electric mid-size hatchback, formerly a compact sedan manufactured by Japanese automaker Toyota. Toyota Prius hybrid cars in general, may seem like a fairly recent addition to the automotive landscape. Prius Hybrid first went to sale in 1997 at japan.

First Generation of Toyota Hybrid was produced in 1997. The first generation Prius, at its launch, became the world's first mass-produced gasoline-electric hybrid car. It featured the Toyota Hybrid System powered by an all-aluminum, 1.5-liter VVT gasoline engine with 70 horsepower at 4,500 rpm and a 25-kilowatt battery pack producing 34 horsepower. In 2003, The second generation was appeared with more environmentally friendly than the previous model, and is 6 inches (150 mm) longer than the previous version.

The Third Generation was debuted in 2009. Toyota cut the price of the Prius to better compete with the Honda Insight. In August 2013, Toyota's chief engineer for the Prius line "Satoshi Ogiso", announced some of the improvements and key features of the next generation Prius, expected to be introduced as early as 2015.
