Japan Used Lincoln Continental for Sale

The Lincoln Continental is an executive car produced and marketed by Lincoln, which is a division of the American automobile manufaturers Ford Motor Company. The model line was introduced following the construction of a personal vehicle for Edsel Ford, who commissioned a coachbuilt 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr convertible, developed as a vacation vehicle to attract potential Lincoln buyers.

For the 1942 model year, all Lincoln models were given squared-up fenders and a revised grille. As a result the Continental looks more boxier and somewhat heavier in keeping with ongoing trending design's, but perhaps less graceful in looking back.

After an 8-year gap, the Continental nameplate made its comeback; to launch the vehicle, for the 1956 model year Ford created a namesake Continental division centered around its new flagship vehicle.

The Continental model line underwent extensive changes for the 1958 model year to build a better business case for its flagship and the division that marketed the vehicle.

The Lincoln range was consolidated into one model for the 1961 model year. A new Lincoln Continental replaced all the models. Making its 1st appearance since 1948, the 4th generation was available only as a four-door sedan and convertible until its 1966 model year refresh.

The 5th generation Lincoln Continental is based on body-on-frame construction, it was the 1st Lincoln to do so since 1957. To save on its engineering and development costs, the Continental was no longer given its own chassis, instead given a longer-wheelbase version of the Mercury Marquis chassis.

In early 1981 the Lincoln Continental made its return as a 1982 model. Lincoln designers shifted the Continental nameplate into the mid-size segment, to further separate Continental from the Town Car. Only offered as a 4-door sedan, the Continental was styled with a "bustle-back" rear end and marketed to compete directly with the Cadillac Seville and the Imperial.
