Subaru makes automobiles in different body types like Hatchback, Mini Truck, Sedan Car, Sports Car, SUVs and Wagon. Subaru Sedan Cars are featured with two rows of seats and adequate passenger space in the rear compartment for adult passengers. The Legacy began with a 5-door wagon or 4-door sedan body styles with FWD and an optional full-time AWD package. The sedan was available with the strengthened 4EAT Automatic transmission or a stronger 5-speed manual transmission. The wagon came equipped with only the 4EAT. The tail light appearance on both the sedan and wagon was influenced by the taillights on the SVX. As a turbocharged sedan or wagon in Japan, and as a trim package for the USA version in 1994, became a top level model upgrade in 1996, using the new EJ25D DOHC 2.5 L naturally aspirated engine. "Limited" trim level editions were introduced, offering heated leather, or cloth, seats and trim and a tinted, glass moonroof.
Subaru has offered four-door sedan and five-door body variants of Impreza since 1992. The Impreza was released in Japan in November and offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions and as a four-door sedan or five-door hatchback/wagon. Also, there was a WRX STI type RA (sedan) available, with a roof vent instead of map lights, and wind up windows, although electrics are an option from the factory. The STI 4 high-level wing was fitted to the sedan, and STI-style front bucket seats and firmer suspension were also fitted. The Impreza won the Best Sports Sedan in 2002 and the Best Performance Car in 2004.
