The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a full-size luxury SUV made by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz since 2006. It is a three-row, seven-passenger vehicle of the Mercedes-Benz SUV line. The GL shares the same unibody architecture with the M-Class. the GL-Class was renamed as Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class in 2015. The GL was the first full-size SUV from a German automaker. Its main competitors are the Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX, Cadillac Escalade, and the Lincoln Navigator.
The GL-Class was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2006. The GL lacks the typical SUV boxy styling and body-on-frame construction of the G-Class in favor of an elongated and widened version of the M-Class's unibody architecture. The GL has the much more luxurious equipment and better road manners than the civilian G-Class vehicles. The GL-Class won 2007 Motor Trend SUV of the Year.
