Volkswagen honoured at 2010 Fleet News Awards

Volkswagen has won two key categories as well as the highly competitive company car title at this year’s Fleet News Awards, with the Polo being named ‘Best Supermini’ while the Golf picked up both the ‘Best Lower medium Car’ as well as the coveted ‘2010 Company Car of the Year’.

Presented at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, the prestigious Fleet News Awards honoured the fleet industry’s top achievers for the past 12 months.

On collecting the awards, Volkswagen’s Head of Fleet Services Vincent Kinner said: ‘To receive these awards from Fleet News is a great honour and they are a fantastic endorsement for two crucial models and the Volkswagen brand as a whole. We’ve started 2010 in a very strong position, a situation we hope to build as the year progresses.’

Commenting on the Volkswagen’s success, the Fleet News judging panel added: ‘The Golf impresses fleet operators and drivers in equal measure. It has strong residual values and a wide choice of efficient engines that lead to low operating costs. Drivers see it as an aspirational car in its sector.’

The panel for the 2010 Fleet News Awards included a number of key figures from around the fleet industry including James Langley (Deputy Chairman, ICFM), Julie Jenner (Chairman, ACFO), Jason King (Forecasting Editor, EurotaxGlass’s), Martin Ward (Manufacturer Relationships Manager, CAP), Tony Leigh (PricewaterhouseCoopers), David Kershaw (Operations Director, Lex Autolease) and Stephen Briers (Editor, Fleet News). It was again chaired by Christopher Macgowan, former Chief Executive of the SMMT.
