A Crawler is heavy vehicle machinery mainly used in construction, transportation, digging, lifting, loading or unloading the goods. The crawler machinery used in multi-purpose and perform its task in a less time with efficiently. The vehicle is also known as versatile machine and mostly used in construction sites.
Crawler Excavator: A crawler excavator' (or crawling digger) is a tracked vehicle designed to dig or move large objects and is classified by its mode of caper. The many types of excavators contained wheeled, walker, towed and rail excavators. Associated with tracked tanks widely used by armies, these crawlers move upon the same rotating wheel systems; but along with that have the ability to dig, pick and transport excavated materials as they proceed.
Components: The crawler excavator elements include a major crawler chassis, rotor support, the central swivel joints, turntables, the device weight, the panel, cab and air-conditioners.
Chassis: The chassis moves the excavator. It partakes a tank track that contained the planes and running track and operated by a motor-reducer pipe.
Applications: Crawler excavators are broadly used in construction work, such as digging scoop, holes and groundwork, as well as for handling materials, moving earth, destruction, dredging, etc. Other attachments used in confirming the crawler excavator for boring, ripping, crushing, cutting and lifting.
Crawler Tractor: A crawler tractor is a construction vehicle that moves on tracks instead of wheels. The tracks spread the vehicle’s weight over a larger surface area, enabling the tractor to draw a lower force per unit area on the ground. This allows the tractor to safely traverse over the moister ground like rich soil, snow, or mud. A variation of attachments can be compiled to the crawler tractor thereby maximising its usability. When a dozer blade is attached to the front of the crawler tractor it is generally known as a "bulldozer". With a loader attachment, it becomes a crawler loader.
Crawler Crane: A crawler is a crane mounted on an undercarriage with a set of tracks (also called crawlers) that provide durability and mobility. Crawler cranes range in lifting capacity from about 40 to 3,500 short tonnes (35.7 to 3,125.0 long tonnes; 36.3 to 3,175.1 t). Crawler cranes have both advantages and disadvantages depending on their use. Their main advantage is that they can move around on the site and perform each lift with little set-up since the crane is constant on its tracks with no outriggers. Caterpillar tracks are also far better at traversing soft ground without sinking in, as they spread the weight out over a great area. Thus a crawler crane can move about an untrained job site with less risk of getting stuck in soft ground. As well, a crawler crane is competent of travelling with a load. The main disadvantage is that they are very heavy, and cannot easily be moved from one job site to another without important cost. Usually, a large crawler must be detached and moved by trucks, rail cars or ships to its next location.
